This page is for those of you who are new to the concept of downgrading the PSP and downloading games, etc from the internet to your PSP.
You may be asking yourself exactly what this downgrading stuff is all about.
In order to understand that you need to know a little about the history of PSP versions.
~~~
What You Need to Know About PSP Versions
The first American PSP was version 1.50. Sony has released many upgraded versions of the PSP since then, along with upgrade patches for earlier versions of the PSP.
As of this date (July 2007) the new PSPs are version 3.51 and 3.52.
In order to play downloaded games you have to get your PSP back to the original 1.50 version and then upgrade to a custom version. The 1.50 is sometimes referred to as the “Golden Version” for obvious reasons.
To get your PSP back to version 1.50 you have to downgrade the version you currently have. However, depending on the version you now have, you may have to upgrade before you downgrade.
(Sound complicated? Don’t worry, PSP-Monkey will explain all.)
Once your PSP is back to version 1.50 you can then use an upgrader to upgrade your PSP to a higher custom version that allows you to play those downloaded games (and incidentally, watch movies at a higher resolution.) Following the PSP-Monkey Website you will be upgrading to version 3.40 OE-A, created by Dark_Alex.
This 3.40 OE-A custom firmware allows you to do everything the official Sony 3.40 version does, and:
- run downloaded games;
- play PSOne (PSX) games;
- use plugins, such as CWCheat, SVCapture, POPS Loader, and MP3 PRX;
- increase the brightness level above normal;
- change the processor speed so you can run games faster; and
- it adds a recovery console that may assist in the event of semi-brick conditions.
Did I already say this? Read the Important Downgrade Info page and read all instructions for your version before you do anything. Also read the entire ReadMe.txt for your firmware version before you begin downgrading or upgrading.
Once you get your PSP upgraded to the latest custom firmware
[…] You might wonder, why would I want to know how to downgrade a PSP? […]
HI I LIKE THIS WEBSIDE
can i downgrade a 3.90?
As of this date there is still no downgrader for any PSP that is above a 3.50. If you have a 3.50 or below you are in luck, but nothing higher.
4.05 I think can be downgraded using the pandora battery, but we do not have a guide for that yet.
